Danny Manning, former coach at Wake Forest University, is letting go of his mansion in Winston-Salem, NC. He’s asking $1.45 million.

The former NBA All-Star has since scored an assistant coaching gig with the Maryland Terrapins. Now, he’s looking to leave the Tarheel State in his rearview mirror—for good.

Manning picked up the residence just two months after landing the Demon Deacons gig, in April 2014. The home had been on the market for a couple of years before the coach swooped in with a $1,055,000 offer.

With over 5,700 square feet, the floor plan includes three bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms. An open layout offers a spacious, airy living area with easy access outside. A recently updated, top-of-the-line kitchen looks out to the living area, and contains a casual eating space.

Built in 2004, the custom home also features a formal dining room, guest suite, wine cellar, and flexible spaces on the upper level that are currently in use as an office and a media room.

Other high-end details include Brazilian cherry floors, an elevator, and coffered ceilings. A game room is ready for sports fans, with the Wake Forest logo on the floor.

The primary suite features generous dual closets, a luxury bath, fireplace, and pool access.

A newly designed, 1,800-square-foot, courtyard-enclosed outdoor nirvana boasts a heated, saltwater pool, and poolhouse with bath. A new owner can entertain outside with a kitchen, fireplace, and lounge area.

Now 54, Manning has roots in the state he’s leaving, having played three years of high school ball in Greensboro, NC. He went on to become an All-American in college at the University of Kansas, and memorably led the team to an NCAA championship in 1988.

In the NBA, the forward played for 14 seasons and was twice named an All-Star. After his playing career, he became an assistant coach at his alma mater. He moved up to head coach at the University of Tulsa before accepting the Wake Forest job.

Manning previously owned a home in Lawrence, KS, which he had attempted to sell after moving south. The house was on the market in 2014 for $1.95 million, and its price dropped over the years, until it finally sold in 2018, with a final list price of $1.3 million.

Dee Parker with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Carolinas Realty holds the listing.
