Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love is selling his resort-style mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The massive, sun-drenched property is on the market for $8,650,000.
The 17,515-square-foot home was built in 1992, and Love and his family purchased the nearly 3.5-acre property in 1994. According to listing agent Linda Sansone, the lot is one of the premier spots in all of San Diego County, sitting high above the area with 360-degree views of mountains, golf courses, the ocean, and city skyline.
The Loves remodeled the property about 10 years ago, creating a unique retreat designed to evoke good vibrations.
The eight-bedroom, 8.5-bath house sits in the guard-gated community of Fairbanks Ranch and is ringed by tropical gardens with a pool, outdoor living room and kitchen, fire pit, custom spa, and tennis court with locker room. The landscaping is capped by a three-level water feature, designed after the fountains of Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy.
Guests are welcomed inside the huge home via a grand foyer and dual staircases. Disappearing walls help the interior spaces merge with the outdoors, and high-end custom finishes including onyx, exotic woods, and natural stone run throughout the home.
Other highlights include the wine room, meditation room, home theater, and fitness center. The house is also equipped with solar panels and has a private well.
Sansone declined to give any details about the Loves or why they have decided to part with the spectacular home in Southern California.
Love has made headlines over the past few years for squabbling with the other members of the Beach Boys, and was accused of firing Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and David Marks after a 50th anniversary tour launched in 2012.
Love owns the Beach Boys name and won a contentious lawsuit in the ’90s against Wilson for publishing. Love also owns a place near Lake Tahoe and a home in Pebble Beach, CA, which has been on and off the market for nearly a decade.
