This week, Twitter put its effort behind crowdsourcing a rational explanation for the week’s most popular property on realtor.com®. Those same social media sleuths propelled the home with creepy vibes to the top of the chart, racking up tens of thousands of clicks along the way. Nearly as many theories about the home’s backstory were also spawned.
Many were simply baffled by the bunker-style home in Kentucky built into the side of a hill with 18-inch concrete walls and a room built like a walk-in safe complete with a cell-like door.
And because the listing offers no inkling of what the cell-like space is designed for—or even the fact that it exists—theories ran rampant.
Some tweeted the Kentucky home may have been built by a doomsday prepper. Another guessed it was a walk-in gun safe. Others bandied about phrases like “cult leader” and “organ harvester,” which seems overly dramatic, but the fortified below-ground jail cell is undoubtedly jarring.
Away from the nightmare-inducing home, you also clicked on the dreamy California home being sold by HGTV star Christina Haack, an inspired midcentury modern in Rhode Island, and a bodacious Beverly Hills, CA, estate that boasts the largest pool in the 90210.
But before you posit your own theory about this week’s most popular home, we ask you to scroll down and check out all of these high-flying properties.

1. 12510 Saw Mill Rd, Louisville, KY
Price: $399,000
Why it’s here: It was a social media sensation this week. Folks couldn’t get enough of this house built on a remote 13-acre lot near the Jefferson Memorial Forest. The listing photos for the two-bedroom home start off normal enough, and the home’s features and amenities wouldn’t look out of place in any normal suburban home.
Then, you arrive at what looks to be a fortified cell, which was offered up in the listing photos without any detail whatsoever. Theories on the underground vault were tossed across the web. If you have an idea what this creepy space is really for, we’re all ears.
