A posh estate in West Orange, NJ, belonging to the NFL safety Eric Reid is on the market for $1.85 million—almost a century after it was built, in the Roaring ’20s.
In the English manor style popularized by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, the three-story brick home has been tastefully updated, with modern touches that complement its original design.
Reid purchased the residence in July 2018 for $1.5 million and scored a bargain in the process. The home was initially listed in September 2017 for $2.5 million.
The mansion sits on a lush, 2.6-acre lot and includes six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two powder rooms. Its location is also a plus: The home is in the prestigious gated community of Llewellyn Park, just five minutes from Montclair, NJ, and less than 25 minutes from Manhattan.
The home was presciently designed for remote learning and work, and among its many interesting features are a two-story atrium library and a loft that can easily be used as a classroom.
Although the home is family-friendly, it has a number of luxe features that adults will particularly appreciate. Highlights include five fireplaces with Georgian and Regency mantels, a three-level elevator, marble and terrazzo floors, 18-foot cathedral ceilings, and antique doors.

For relaxing with friends after a big game, there’s also a loft attic with a wet bar and wine refrigerator.
The grounds include an apple orchard, and rolling lawns with an underground watering system.
Reid, 29, starred in college at Louisiana State University, and was drafted in 2013 in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers. He starred in the Bay Area for five seasons before moving over to the Carolina Panthers in 2018.
The safety played well for two seasons with the Panthers, but never signed with a team for the 2020 season—which led former teammate Colin Kaepernick to allege that Reid was being blackballed by the NFL. Reid is still active in social justice causes and has not formally announced his retirement from the league.
Robin Wilson of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty-Montclair has the listing.
