$7.45M Historic Waterfront Estate Is Alabama’s Most Expensive Listing

realtor.com

Talk about Southern comfort. A picturesque waterfront estate in Fairhope, AL, is a timeless family home that could be handed down for generations.

It’s also made its mark as the most expensive listing currently on the market in the Yellowhammer State—available for $7.45 million. For a little bit of ‘Bama context, the runner-up is a $6.1 million, four-bedroom mountain retreat in Heflin on 943 acres.

As for the most expensive listing, it went up for sale this week and offers oodles of historic appeal. It’s been added to the National Register of Historic Places, and it’s registered in the Point Clear Historic District.

The standout property offers 104 feet on the Boardwalk, and is just four doors south of the Grand Hotel, once a hospital for the Confederate Army. Sitting on Mobile Bay, Fairhope is a scenic Gulf Coast locale dotted with antebellum homes and was named the best small town in the South by Southern Living magazine in 2016.

Constructed in the late 1880s, the home has been expanded and renovated to “perfection,” the listing description notes. Details include pine floors, crown moldings, and operational shutters.

Outside, the wraparound covered porch with water views beckons. Inside, the layout features six bedrooms, 7,900 square feet, and space for everyone. There are formal living and dining rooms, a family room, dual offices, a playroom, and a rec room over the garage with a full bath and a kitchenette.

For visitors, the guesthouse has it all—full kitchen, breakfast area, living room with a fireplace, two bedrooms, and a screened-in porch.

Enter a gated drive flanked by live oaks, azaleas, and citrus trees for a gracious Southern welcome. Sure to soothe the most harried big-city soul, the serene surroundings include proximity to two golf courses, a private dock, and a boat and boat lift.

The listing description states that the home is available fully furnished, with “period piece antiques and reproductions, custom rugs and draperies, fixtures and finishes and appointed with every amenity imaginable.” In other words, it’s a turnkey proposition, and the next owner can kick back and enjoy some upscale Southern living.

Anna Luce with Roberts Brothers Trec holds the listing.
