It’s Round 2 for Sugar Ray Leonard’s luxe property in Pacific Palisades, CA.
The boxing legend has relisted the home on Los Angeles’s Westside for $46.5 million. It was built by the retired boxer and his wife, Bernadette Leonard, and first entered the real estate ring at the heavyweight price of $52 million, in 2019.
Now, even after a 10% discount, the property still holds the title of most expensive home for sale in the tony town.
Located on one of the largest lots in an upscale area known as the Pacific Riviera, it is now being marketed as the Leonard Estate. It was built over two decades ago, and designed by the architect Richard Landry (who has also worked on mansions for Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen).
Set on over 1.7 acres, the seven-bedroom, 12-bathroom mansion is an homage to Italian architecture, inspired by the villas of Florence. The grounds are adorned with fountains, statues, gardens, and lawns. The serene space is located behind large gates and hedges, ensuring privacy and security.
The home also weighs in with a hefty footprint: The custom vision offers a 16,700-square-foot main house perfect for entertaining on a grand scale.
Highlights include a two-story family room with glass doors that open outside, a built-in media center, and a formal living room with a fireplace, a spacious dining room with doors leading outside, and a gourmet kitchen. A sunny solarium with a wood-beamed ceiling is an attractive setting for a casual dining area, which also opens out to the gardens.
Interesting architectural elements throughout the home include beamed ceilings, multiple fireplaces, and elaborate chandeliers, as well as sets of glass doors that open to the patio. A curved staircase leads up to the second floor.
The layout also incorporates an office, gym, bar, and screening room. An appealing master suite offers a fireplace, balcony, and walk-in closets.
The picturesque grounds also boast a full guesthouse, a lit tennis court with viewing area, an oval pool, and putting green. A four-car garage completes the property.
Ray Charles Leonard, 65, is considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time. During his boxing career, he won world titles in five different weight divisions, as well as a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics. Known as Sugar Ray, he has long since retired from the ring, and these days, serves as a motivational speaker and occasional actor.
Drew Fenton with Hilton & Hyland holds the listing.
