Don’t mess with Houston—especially its closets.
A new listing in the city’s tony River Oaks neighborhood—dubbed The Windsor and priced at $5,750,000—features a two-story master closet modeled after Chanel’s flagship boutique in New York City. The property was built this year by Al Ross Luxury Homes.
The closet features a spiral staircase, minibar with a marble-front refrigerator (to chill Champagne, of course!), seating area, marble-top island with built-in storage, LED-framed shelving, large TV, and hammered-silver sink with faucet. The closet, which can easily hold a large luggage collection, is also equipped with a jewelry safe.
It isn’t just a place to get dressed and store your wardrobe. This is a spot to entertain.
Listing agent Dee Dee Guggenheim Howes of Compass says these glam spots are an area trend.
“We have so many fashionistas in Houston. Closets are a big draw,” she says. “They’re not just for clothes anymore. It’s for socializing and entertaining. My girlfriends have Champagne parties in their closets.”
So how much can be stored in this closet?
Guggenheim Howes isn’t exactly sure, but estimates it’s “hundreds of bags and hundreds of shoes. I’ve been in Houston for 30 years. I don’t know of another closet like this.”
Wide-plank hardwood flooring in the closet extends to the rest of the home, which Guggenheim Howes describes as “modern with a traditional twist.”
There’s also an opportunity to expand the closet by opening up a wall on the second floor.
“You could have an office or a gaming room with a pool area or workout space,” she says. “We do not want to limit the buyer to just this closet.”
There’s also room to create a “his” closet in one of the baths, which could be a sweet spot for a stylish gent, she says.
The luxurious 8,900-square-foot, three-story mansion includes an open staircase (with a skylight), an elevator, and a glass-walled wine room.
The four-bedroom home features a master suite with a fireplace and spa-inspired bath. Custom built-ins and top-of-the-line finishes are also part of the overall design.
“The closet was 100% part of the idea from the get-go,” says Guggenheim Howes, “and the neighborhood lends itself to the top of Houston’s buyers.”
