The champion windsurfer Robby Naish is sailing away from his oceanfront estate in Haiku, on the Hawaiian isle of Maui. The 73-acre offering is listed for $18 million, which makes it the highest-priced listing on Maui’s quiet North Shore.
On the market for the first time, the picturesque property encompasses a scenic spot called Kealii Point, located between Uaoa Bay and Pilale Bay, with nearly a half-mile of coastline—and no neighbors in sight.
Naish and his wife, Katie, bought the property as an empty lot in 2000 for $1.85 million, and built the home in 2005. The two have since divorced and have decided to sell.
“It’s really one of a kind on the island,” says the listing agent, Josh Jerman with Hawaii Life, noting the acreage and the half-mile of shoreline.
He describes it as “one of the largest oceanfront estates in the entire state of Hawaii.”
The resortlike grounds incorporate a 6,000-square-foot main house with a gym, and a 2,000-square-foot barn and shop, with plenty of space to store all-terrain vehicles, water scooters, boards, and any other toys for aquatic activities.
Greeting you as you enter the main gate is an 8-foot Tiki statue carved out of a single monkey-pod log.
The majestic driveway, lined with palm trees, leads to a five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom contemporary home with a distinct island vibe. The dwelling was built with koa wood and natural materials.
The interior features a great room with pocket doors that disappear into the walls, extending the living space outside and offering views of the ocean and rolling green expanse.
The spacious spread features multiple living spaces and a guest wing, allowing family and visitors to spread out. The home office provides a chance to make any co-workers you might be teleconferencing with extremely jealous.
Everyone can gather back on the main level, which includes a chef’s kitchen, bar, and dining room.
The great room opens onto a large covered lanai that leads to a 10-foot-deep pool with a waterfall and spa.
Although the residence is attached to the power grid, the property also has state-of-the-art solar and a private well. The acreage includes grazing land to an adjacent ranch, as well as wooded areas.
There’s plenty of room to expand the existing house or build a guesthouse or other barns on the property to serve as art or workout studios. An avid gardener or ambitious arborist may want to plant fruit trees and edible gardens.
Multiple trails from the property lead to quick shoreline access for swimming, fishing, and diving. For windsurfing, Jerman notes that the North Shore offers prime destinations in close proximity.
Best of all? The home comes furnished, and the ATVs will be parked in the shop. However, the boards that decorate the interiors will be leaving with Naish.
Still, it’s easy to move right in, and the location is just 25 minutes from Kahului airport. Alternatively, helicopter to your front door in minutes.
Naish, 57, has won 23 Windsurfing World Championship titles, and is considered a pioneer of kiteboarding and stand-up paddle boarding. The athlete and entrepreneur is also the founder of a company that bears his name and manufactures surfing equipment.
